Christmas trip to Morecambe Bay Light Vessel

For over three decades Fleetwood lifeboat undertook an annual pre-Christmas trip to Morecambe Bay light vessel; a trip of around 20 miles from Fleetwood. This festive visit was undertaken until the light-vessel was removed from service in 1987. The date was weather dependent as the purpose was to deliver a little Christmas cheer in the form of a turkey, Christmas tree, festive foods and perhaps a little alcoholic beverage for the crew of the light-ship who would be on duty on Christmas Day. The lifeboat crew were often accompanied by lifeboat committee members, a press representative, the Mayor and even the Bishop some years.
