Lifeboat ‘Edith’ (1887-1894)
The lifeboat ‘Edith’ arrived at the Fleetwood lifeboat station on 17th February, 1887. She was a 46 foot long vessel with 11 foot beam and self-righting. This lifeboat had been transferred from the New Brighton station where she had been on trials for three years. She was a gift from a Miss Carew of Shrewsbury and served at the Fleetwood station from 1887 to 1894, saving 19 lives. This boat was kept afloat on a river mooring and became Fleetwood’s Number 2 lifeboat. Lifeboat Edith was withdrawn on March 17th 1894 and replaced by the 43 foot long by 12 foot 6 inch beam Watson Class non-self-righting lifeboat, named Maude Pickup.
