Lifeboat ‘William Street’ (1989-2016)

In October 1989 a new Tyne class lifeboat replaced the Waveney class Lady of Lancashire.  At 47 feet long she was three foot longer than her predecessor and faster, with an operational speed of 19 knots.  Built at the FBM yard in Cowes, Isle of Wight, for the first time the crew were protected from the elements in an enclosed cabin.

There were two steering positions; one in the main cabin and an outside one behind the aft end of the main cabin, towards the stern.  This lifeboat was funded from the W.O. Street Foundation, together with money gifted from Miss Hilda Richmond and legacies from Mr Francis Balshaw and Major Percy Holley.  William Street had been a well known Lancashire businessman.  A naming and dedication ceremony took place in Fleetwood Marina in May 1990.
